Assisted by L. Christine Savolainen in breakdown, imaging, processing, and rebuild of oyster trays. At Manchester, Doug Immerman also helped rebuild and hang trays.
Trays had sea urchins, sea stars, anemones and gunnels (eel like fish) on top and associated around the trays. Luckily they were mostly not present within the trays except for a couple anemones.
Sampling when as follows. Christine and I took individual trays to process. First we cleaned the trays to remove any excess silt that masked the tile labels as well as cleaning up the oysters and conspecifics. Christine then photographed the clean trays and tiles to document individual oyster sizes as well as any conspecifics in the tray. We then each counted the living specimens while simultaneously collected dead specimens from each tray. We then counted the conspecifics and removed them from the trays. A hobo temperature logger was also taken from one of the trays. Eight (8) live samples were collected from each tray for future genetic work. The trays were then reassembled back into stacks of three and hung within the net pens on the floating deck.
The following table is a breakdown of the Live, Dead, Total, Missing and Conspecifics present within the tray. Some trays are missing the dead counts as we found it too cumbersome to count all the dead. These will be counted in the lab and added to the data tables below.
